Letter from VP Member Education
A letter from our vp: member education, Lindsey Evon
Dear Potential New Members:
Welcome to Delta Gamma! From all of us here at Eta Phi, we are so honored to have you interested in our organization and in learning more about our sisterhood. Our chapter is a home for so many women throughout their years in college and beyond.
As vp: member education, my role begins at the end of the recruitment process when you receive and accept a bid. This begins the new member period where you will engage in weekly new member meetings as well as other fun events. It’s my job to help our new members bond as a class as well as help them prepare for membership in Delta Gamma. My goal is to make your new member period a welcoming experience that makes all of our new members feel included, supported and excited to become a lifelong member of Delta Gamma.
So, what exactly is a new member period? A “new member” is any woman who has accepted a bid to join DG, but has not yet been initiated. After our Bid Day celebration, you will attend weekly new member meetings where you will learn more about Delta Gamma and our chapter: the history of our fraternity, your responsibilities as a member and our core values. You’ll also have an opportunity to participate in our amazing philanthropy, Service for Sight, and take part in activities that will bring you closer together as a member class including our new member retreat. The new member period is also filled with exciting programming that will bring you closer to the chapter as a whole. New member mixers such as game nights, picnics in the park and trips to sights like the Highline are opportunities for you to form meaningful friendships with the sisters in our chapter. Our Big/Little program is an exciting way to help you connect with a sister in our chapter, your Big, who will act as a mentor during the new member period as well as welcome you into her DG fam. You’ll also participate in NYU fraternity and sorority community events like NYDM, Anchor Games and Greek Week. As a new member, you’ll have the opportunity to go to sisterhood events like our Galentine's Day and friendsgiving celebrations. At the end of the semester we will celebrate the end of your new member period with an Initiation Ceremony and our end of semester formal!
My Delta Gamma journey has been such a fun and rewarding experience. I have met amazing and diverse women through joining DG. My sisters are a great support system and my closest friends. There is always a sister around when I need them, whether that’s for last minute study sessions, Sunday brunch adventures, or just someone to talk to. The values set forth by our founders and the incredible sisters in this chapter have helped me become the best version of myself. I am proud to be a part of this sisterhood and I am honored to be able to share it with all of you as vp: member education. I hope that you’ll consider going through recruitment with DG and discovering more about everything that DG’s new member experience has to offer!
With love,
Eugenia De La Garza
