Delta Gamma

Letter from Recruitment Chair

A letter from our vp: membership, Laura Campos

Dear Potential New Members,

Going to NYU was always a dream of mine. I was so excited to come to the city and truly grow into my independence and adulthood. But what no one tells you is how hard it can be to make the city truly feel like home. When I arrived on campus, I was met with your typical welcome week friends, those who you know, but not well enough to determine if they will be your best friends. I wanted to find a way in which I could make the city feel a little smaller and find a way to make real friends, who shared my values and interests.

As a freshman, I decided to attend the club fair. I immediately came face to face with the Greek Life area of the fair. At first, I thought I would never dare to go through recruitment — it was something that never really spoke to me — but I ended up going up to the table and signing up. Call it a gut feeling, or a spur of the moment decision, something in me felt like I needed to do it. How bad could it be right?

After the first round of recruitment, I had a feeling that Delta Gamma was where I belonged. I had met the kindest and most genuine women, women who were different in their own way but came together to form a family. I got to bond with the most inspiring and passionate women over the next couple of days during recruitment, and on the second to last day of recruitment, I met my now Grand-big Kailey. We instantly clicked, and she introduced me to her little Ellie. It was then that I knew for sure, I wanted to be a Delta Gamma. After I received my bid to Delta Gamma, I went out for sushi with Kailey and Ellie, and immediately found in them what had been missing in NYC for me.

Needless to say, joining Delta Gamma has completely transformed my college experience. DG has given me some of my best friends, the most amazing memories, and countless opportunities for growth and leadership. And there’s the little things too – whether it’s 1AM iHOP trips, studying in Bobst library, brunching at Ruby’s, or picnicking in Central Park, my sisters are always there for me and just one call or text away. Since the moment I joined, I never felt like I had to hide any part of myself and I knew that these women would always have my back. From meeting my best friend Sophie, to starting my own branch of the fam, serving on CMT, and being rescued from a mouse ridden apartment by my sisters, the impact that DG has had on my life has been immeasurable and I am immensely grateful to be a part of this wonderful sisterhood.

I am so humbled and honored to be given the opportunity to serve as VP: membership for 2021. My sisters are the ones that cheer me on during the highs and comfort me during the lows, and I would not be the person I am today without their love and support. I am so excited to watch our organization grow and cannot wait to plan a fun, inclusive, and memorable recruitment in the Fall! Delta Gamma is exactly the “home away from home” that I was looking for, and I am confident that our PNMs will be able to find their lifelong sisterhood within Eta Phi too! I can’t wait to meet all of you!

With love,

Laura Campos
